The french doors we used required a 62 in. The jamb above the door is of course empty and our planning and measuring tools will help you measure the interior of the jamb to order the correct sash size to fill it. The first step we took was to prep the opening for the doors. The pattern or design of the muntins for the transom usually does not align with the muntin bars or stiles of the doors below.

We headed to the home depot and picked up a pair of 60 in. A transom over a double door better visually connects the two rooms and shares light between the two. Double doors are often used for room transitions so adjoining rooms can occasionally be closed off from one another. We decided to install off the shelf french doors and build a custom transom window to fill the space above.

At the interior of the transom s jamb face nail the transom unit to the door unit using 1 1 4 trim nails along each side of the sash. Jamb faces should be flush on both sides. Align the sides so that the jambs of the transom unit and door unit are perfectly aligned. Slide transom unit into the opening directly atop the head jamb of the door.
